A Snoezelen® Multi-Sensory Environment (MSE) is a specially designed space that offers controlled sensory experiences to promote relaxation, exploration, and self-regulation. Rooted in evidence-based practice, Snoezelen® MSEs provide a safe and engaging setting where individuals can interact with lighting, sounds, textures, and movement in ways that meet their unique sensory needs. These environments are particularly supportive for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), sensory processing differences, and trauma histories. Unlike overstimulating settings, Snoezelen® MSEs are structured to balance sensory input—helping individuals calm, focus, or re-energize. While specialized equipment such as swings, bubble tubes, or tactile panels may be featured, effective sensory design also includes elements like decluttering, therapeutic furnishings, and intentional use of color and lighting. Snoezelen® MSEs can be integrated into schools, therapeutic offices, places of worship, airports, shopping centers, and home environments, creating spaces that foster well-being, learning, and meaningful connection.
